Literature Text

Trigger rides to the central part of the city. He went to any mechanic shop he could find but was rejected until he came across Joe’s Mechanics. There was a ‘Help Wanted’ sign on the front window. Trigger pulls up and parks in the parking lot. He goes into the shop. The place was nearly empty. Trigger goes up to the front desk. There was nobody working at the front desk.

“Hello??” Trigger asks looking around for anyone that worked there.

An enormous menacing-looking guy, with black hair and eyes, emerges from the back door. He notices Trigger.

“Can I help you?” the huge guy demanded.

“Hey, I’m looking for a job and I noticed that you have a ‘Help Wanted’ sign on your window.” Trigger says.

“Have you ever worked with motors or any kind of machinery?” the big guy questions.

“Ha, you could say that," tilts his head toward his bike in the front "put that ride together from nothing but scraps and trash...sort of a hobby of mine I guess.” Trigger says casually, trying to impress the guy.

“You mean the 2012 BMW S 1000 RR parked outside?” the big guy said in surprise.

“Yeah.” Trigger smirks.

“I see that you have a lot of talent in you, you’re hired. You start work tomorrow.” The big guy says.

Another guy appears from the back door. This worker is about the same height as Trigger but with dark brown, spiky hair and a darker skin tone.

“Hey Boss! There’s this guy that won’t lea-.”

“Gear here will show you the how the shop runs tomorrow.” The big guy interrupted.

“Wait what??” Gear says confused.

“Anyways, I’m Joe. I didn’t catch your name.” Joe outstretches his hand to Trigger, ignoring Gear.

“Trigger.” Trigger smiles shaking Joe’s beefy hand.

“Excuse me?” Joe says puzzled.

“Oh, Trigger is my name and thanks for the job.” Trigger smirked.

“Hahaha! Aren’t you funny? Well, see you tomorrow Trigger.” Joe beams.

“Later.” Trigger casually says.

Trigger leaves the shop. He hops on his motorcycle and drives off to his house. When he arrives to his house, he opens the garage door. He parks his bike and goes inside. Aiko hears him come into the house. She gets out of her room and run down the stairs.

“So how did it go? Did you get a job?” she questions feverishly.

“Yup, I have a job at Joe’s Mechanics. I start tomorrow.” Trigger says smiling.

“I’m so proud of you!” Aiko cheerfully says giving Trigger a big hug.

“Yeah yeah, now get off of me I have to sleep.” Trigger says in exasperation.

The next day, Trigger starts his first day of work. He goes inside the shop to find Gear at the front desk.

“Hey, Joe said that you’re going to show me the works, right?” Trigger questions.

“Sadly yes…... ha-ha! I’m just messing with you.” Gear says optimistically. “Come on, I’ll give you a tour of the place.”

Trigger follows Gear as he goes through the back door that leads into the huge building. There are three cars in the garage being fixed. Gear explains that there are six stations, what each station does and introduces Trigger to each of the employees. In the fifth station, an employee accidentally spills oil all over the floor. Trigger slips on the oil and falls backwards. Another worker that was carrying spare parts in a box slips on the oil falls too. The box of parts lands on the worker with a thud. He gasps as the wind is knocked right out of him. Gear helps Trigger get up. Trigger, then, checks the back of his favorite Tommy Bahamas shirt and sighs to find out that it is plastered with black, greasy oil. Trig suddenly realizes about the fallen mechanic. He turns to help the fallen worker get up. Right when he helped the guy, the worker left hooks Trigger’s face.

“Aaahhh! What was that for?!” Trigger shouts but the guy punches Trigger in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him.

Trigger doubles over trying to breathe. After regaining his breath, Trigger tries to get up but a foot kicks him on the forehead forcing Trigger to fall backwards. Angered, he quickly gets up and punches back. His fist connected with the guy’s ear making it bleed. Trigger dodge and blocks most of the hits but still gets bruises on his arms and legs. Gear tries to break the fight but gets a nosebleed in response. Trigger was about to uppercut the guy’s chin when a huge hand grabs his arm and heaves Trigger and the other guy apart.

“What the hell is going on!?” Joe roars.

“This punk spilled oil all over the place. When I got up he punches me in the face for no reason!” the guy barks facing Trigger.

Joe turns to Trigger.

“I didn’t even spilled the oil! It was-.”

“Trigger…...” Joe shakes his head in disappointment, “starting a fight on your first day is unacceptable especially with my son, Carter. I‘m sorry to say that that I have to give you a strike two more and you’re fired.”

Joe walks back to his office with Carter following behind. Carter looks a lot like his dad but better built and a little taller. Trigger stares in disbelief. Gear pulls Trigger to station five to clean up the oil spill.

“Hey, I’m sorry for Carter. He can be an asshole for most times since his dad owns the shop. He thinks he can do whatever he wants and does not get in trouble at all.” Gear sighs.

“I’m starting to doubt about this job.” Trigger shakes his head

“Hey, as long as you stay out of Carter’s way you will be good. This shop is one of the best in the city anyways.” Gear says positively.

“Yeah, you’re right I shouldn’t let this punk ruin my chance at a good job.” Trigger brightens up.

For the rest of the day, Trigger stood out of Carter’s way and avoided him until his shift was done. Then, Trigger goes off to home. He slouches up the stairs and collapses on his bed, falling fast asleep.
